About Me

My Personal Story

My Name is Mhana Mason, and this is my story about how I survived prescription antidepressant injury, sued the Lilly drug company, helped increase warnings of all prescription psych drugs, and help spread awareness, since 2013.

I'm very proud to have helped countless thousands of people to become more aware, avoid starting risky mind mood altering prescription psych drugs, find trustworthy doctors (or nurse practitioners), inform their prescriber how to taper off slowly, and how to report side effects, and solutions for many other common problems.

If visitors learn nothing more than how to properly review drugs warnings, I will be very happy to have helped to spread awareness, and help others to make more informed decisions.

This site is dedicated to all those harmed or suffered, or did not survive Rx psych drugs.

You're not alone ❤️

Background

Please pardon this page is under construction, I'm making my website despite being visually impaired and injured by prescription psych drugs and doctors who mislead me.

-----

I am a wife, mother, sister, and aunt, and an artist, photographer, caregiver, and I owned a wedding photography business, for 22 years. In 2019 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and now cancer free since 2020.

I thought the fibromyalgia medications were helping me, but I didn't know what serotonin syndrome, and akathsia, and dystonia are, and that serious risks increased as time passed, and after dose changes, missed doses, and switching antidepressants, and Gabapentin Neurontin an anticonvulsant they claimed made the antidepressant work better.

Later I discovered the drugs warn of serious increased risks of drug interactions, if taken together, even if taken as directed.

I suffered Rx antidepressant drug side effects of rash and sleepiness, almost immediately, but my doctor told me to suffer through, instead of discontinue the drug. 8 years later, one day WHAM! Something was terribly wrong. ... and the doctors started acting oddly. Now i can no longer work at my chosen profession, I'm disabled and visually impaired.  Now that I my vision is slowly stronger, I'm updating my story and hope ❤️ it helps others.

See my list below:

Side effects I experienced

~ I am not a doctor or nurse, or a chemist.
I am a survivor and champion of awareness, and beacon of hope, in the darkness. I am very lucky to be alive.  and I'm still recovering in California, since 2013.

I was advised to take prescription drugs by doctors the moment I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, in 2003 to treat fibromyalgia (FM) pain and symptoms.

Before taking the drug, I read the leaflet with tiny text, and I asked the doctor and pharmacist, "Is this drug risky for me, or addictive?"

They all LIED and told me, "The risks were rare, the drugs are not addictive". They didn't even tell me the drugs were mind mood altering antidepressant psych drugs. Like most people say, had I been properly warned about psych drugs, I never would have agreed to try them.

When I inquired, the doctor and pharmacist did mention suicidal thoughts, and liver problems, and, thats it. I reasoned, I had never had suicidal thoughts before, and generally a positive outlook on life, so I didn't think that side effect would be a problem, for me. By the time I found out the truth 8 years later, it was too late, I was hooked.n

I thought I made it very clear to all my doctors, I didnt want any risky unnecessary or addictive drugs, because I have a some relatives who suffer a lifetime of problems stemming from drug and substance abuse and addiction, and therefore I may be more susceptible to chemical dependency. As well as the facts that, I'm sensitive to many different chemicals, and fibromyalgia an immune system disability, and have a family medical history of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and other risks listed clearly on the drug's warning leaflet /legal disclaimers, physician's reference, and package inserts.

FM fibromyalgia is a disease recognized since 1985 by the World Health Organization (WHO) International Classification of diseases in 1994.

Antidepressant Drugs are unproven as medicinally beneficial, for pain relief.

Apparently, only 7 days after starting any new prescription psych drug, a long slow taper is required to reduce WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS, increased risks of allergic reactions, injuries, disease, suicide, and death.

All Rx psych drugs warnings include:

"Never Stop or Change Dose Suddenly or Risk Injury or Death" and "Taper Required", but the drug companies refuse to include how to taper.

(See Slow Taper instructions)

I personally did not get to taper for more than a few days, due to severe symptoms and vomiting; I couldn’t keep the pill down. I thought the pills were poisoning me, and the warning leaflets indicate to stop, if severe side effects are experienced.

I started the first antidepressant, in 2003 after learning I had Fm. In the past years, I informed doctors clearly, I didn't want to take any risky or addictive drugs, and so I opted to suffer through FM pain (and other fibromyalgia symptoms), for many years to avoid common problems of drug treatments for pain. I NEVER asked for opiates, and proven pain treatment but too risky.)

About once a year I asked my doctor, if there were any new developments to treat fibromyalgia pain and symptoms because I was really suffering, and they always replied, there was nothing new.

I wish the doctor and my friends never advised me to try treatments for fibromyalgia, and instead that they warned me properly. I was told to try the medication, I could always stop, but boy is that bad advice. I was wrong, mislead, and lied to, by those profiting from the destruction that follows, and those unaware.

One of my biggest mistakes was trusting the doctor, (and people recemended taking the drugs), over the drug's warning leaflet legal disclaimers, from the drug companies, and the FDA.

After carefully reviewing my errors became more clear, so learn through my mistakes, and my victories.

About me
Why I volunteer to spread awareness

Like countless others, I was tricked to taking Rx psych drugs, and not properly warned.  I used to only have a diagnosis for mild FM fibromyalgia, and was advised to try the drugs to treat FM pain, after both my parents died unexpectedly.

Doctors in denial aka quacks, and risky drugs are easy to identify, if you know what to look for.

The prescription drug warnings were very strong, but my former doctors told me to ignore the warnings. I wish someone warned me properly, so I volunteer to teach how to research drugs and share other important tips to anyone who will listen.

I have been an advocate since 2013, to increase public and professional awareness, and full disclosure of all prescription drug warnings.

One day June 1, 2015, our support group posted that my 'Recovery Buddy' Hope Maraday died the night before. She and I had similar experiences, and we both had been accepted to the Cymbalta class action lawsuits. Sadly, she will never know the results of the lawsuits, accept from Heaven.

More about Hope, here

I've helped increase warnings of Cymbalta Duloxetine and all Rx antidepressant warning leaflets / legal disclaimers, as a result of the most recent mass tort personal injury Cymbalta Lawsuit.
I was one of the cases filed with thousands of other plaintiffs in the Cymbalta drug lawsuit against the Lilly drug company.

I have posted my personal legal documents, and my refusal of the "hush" money offered me in settlement, by the Lilly drug company.
In addition, I have also posted the law firm's release of the case files, including doctor testimonies as filed in the court of law.  Posted my personal legal documents, and files released from my law firm.

We need to especially warn our friends, family, teachers, and our healthcare providers that we know how to research drugs, and the risks of mood mind altering prescription psych drugs.

\

Continued

I also admins several survivor support groups, and I volunteer in groups that do not censor the drug's warnings, results of drug lawsuits, and 5% slow taper method.

We help educate our members, and provide proper support.

The best days are when someone posts, they've decided not to start the psych drug.

All the tips found on this site are approved by doctors and nurse practitioners, or chemists, and or Rx drug awareness experts. The best sources available are included, for your reference to use as evidence.

Our efforts are dedicated to my dear friend
Hope Maraday R.I.P. , and all those who did not survive Rx psych drugs and the doctors who deny the warnings from the drug companies and the FDA.
We are spreading awareness and increased the drug's warnings, but Hope will never see the results of the lawsuits and increased warnings. I like to think HOPE is still with us in spirit, as we were very close and we used to chat daily, and she was and continues to be a tremendous support. I miss her, and know I am very lucky to be alive.

Once aware, you may discover you have losses not necessarily listed on the drug's warning leaflets.

The drug companies warn strongly
"NEVER STOP OR CHANGE DOES SUDDENLY or RISK INJURY or DEATH" After learning the truth, I discovered my trust was misplaced, they had all lied to my face to profit. They didn't care if i lived or died. .

The leaflets indicated to "REPORT ALL SIDE EFFECTS TO YOUR DOCTOR", but my doctors stated acting oddly and advising the opposite of what the drug's warning leaflets indicated to avoid or do.

I attempted to report over 200 side effects, including life threatening injuries listed on the drug's warning leaflets.  What happened next may surprise you.
(My Story below)

I wish someone warned me properly

Since 2013, and I have helped countless thousands of people to be more aware and make more informed decisions, avoid starting Rx psych drugs, or slowly taper off as safely as possible. Many of us find we need to shop for a new doctor during this crisis, and too many patients have few or no  options. We'll review each step to find where we went wrong, and How to fix and avoid the most common problems.

The Rx Drug Awareness pubic website and online support groups teach How to Research Drugs, how to report side effects, how find doctors who are trustworthy, and more.

I am an advocate for increased international awareness, and FULL DISCLOSURE of all Rx drugs.
I especially warn about the risks of mood mind altering and addictive prescription psych drugs, (or drugs that affect serotonin in the body and brain): SSRIs SNRIs Benzos, and other drugs I help teach the pubic, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and I am very proud to have I helped increase warnings of antidepressants and all other psych drugs.
See Results of Drug Lawsuits here: Lawsuits

It should be illegal to lie to patients and refuse to accept reports of side effects. You'd be shocked to know what really happens, after prescription psych drugs are used, even if no noticeable side effects are noticed. Learn more about Serotonin Syndrome and other risks here: Side Effects

Too many of my friends have no survived Rx psych drugs.

The Sad Truth
We have a right to know drug risks.

"Awareness reduces risks and failure, while at the same time increases safety and success."

Please pardon my text errors. I am visually impaired and thank you for letting me know, if you find any errors, or wish to make a contribution to our tips, donate, or purchase one of my drug awareness designs.

___I will be adding more about my story in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, know that you are not alone. Side effects and injury are not rare.

What is rare are doctors and patients who write to formally document their experiences, and prescribers do not try to hide and deny the risks and reports of their patient's side effects.

We have so many tips collected by thousands of survivors, doctors, nurses, and experts, I'll try to share the best tips with you here.

This website is public, so anyone can see, but see the sources for the evidence, because I am only a survivor collecting the facts, and sharing them and my insight.I personally didn't get to slow taper due to server side effects and injury, so please taper off using the doctor approved 5% slow taper method, ideally before problems start.

Not all the side effects are noticeable, so take the next steps towards awareness, and hold on tight. "Awareness reduces risks and failure, while at the same time increasing safety and success."

Mhana Mason Rx antidepressant drug survivor, and beacon of Hope in the darkness. Thank you.

I Reported Experiencing
These Side Effects

This section is being updated

It's important to know: These are the side effects I personally experienced; your experience may be different. In addition, I no longer experience many of the side effects, and now adding some code symbols to indicate the side effects I still suffered, longer than 1 year. I am am slow but determined to document my story and share with others.

  1. SSS*Fibromyalgia Condition Aggravated - I couldn’t feel FM pain, for nearly a year, because the pain from withdrawal and injuries was so much more intense and different than FM pain ever could be. Many of us say our FM or other reasons for taking the drug worsened. I’m sure the fm pain is worse than before... and i have no energy at all now i try to get dressed everyday,  some days i just could not move.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and other symptoms like sleep disturbances and cognitive difficulties. It's not an inflammatory or autoimmune disease, but researchers believe it involves the nervous system's altered processing of pain signals.

  2. Serotonin Syndrome Injury - Complications in severe serotonin syndrome can include metabolic acidosis, rhabdomyolysis, seizures, acute kidney injury, and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). Causes of these complications probably include severe hyperthermia and excessive muscle activity.

  3. Akathisia: a life-threatening side effect of a common medication - Akathisia can occur after traumatic brain injury (TBI). It may cause psycho- motor agitation and can easily be overlooked by doctors. Akathisia may appear soon after the antipsychotic has been started or may appear when the dosage is increased.
Also known to be associated with calcium channel blockers, antiemetics, antivertigo drugs, and sedatives used in anesthesia.

  4. Extrapyramidal Reaction - a group of side effects that occur due to the use of certain medications, particularly antipsychotic drugs

    May increase LIFE THREATENING RISKS

Involuntary blinking, tongue movements, and other uncontrollable movements can also be signs of TD. Embarrassment and avoiding going out in public may be emotional signs of TD. (Do not add medications to treat side effects)
Remember this list represents the list of side effects I experienced and reported to my doctors, and the authorities, and in the Cymbalta Mass Class Action Lawsuits)

Common causes of dysarthria include conditions that affect the nervous system or that cause facial paralysis.  These conditions may cause tongue or throat muscle weakness. Certain medicines also can cause dysarthria.

  30. s*Musculoskeletal stiffness -Muscle stiffness most commonly arises after the overuse of skeletal muscles, which tends to happen after a long period of minimal motion (e.g., after extended bed rest) or after engaging in new exercises. My Scathing Yelp Report
My Hope is sharing my life threatening experiences may help others

PSA: YELP REPORT:
"Dr Leoni is a quack who denies risks of Rx drugs and side effects, from the drug company and FDA, and refuses to document side effects.

When I ordered my records for the mass personal injury lawsuit, i expected to find my list of 200 side effects I paid to report in exam appointment, as the drug's warning leaflet / legal disclaimer instructs.
I asked if antidepressants were risky or addictive and he lied to me, and said, "the risks are rare, and it's not really addictive". Both are untrue.

I asked the doctor 5 times for the drug warnings, (2 times in exam appointment, on 2 different dates, asking for the research results) and he handed me a google print out 1 paragraph, I still have that in my files.
I agreed reluctantly to try it only because he reassured me that antidepressants are not additive or risky.

The drugs warnings that came with the sample bottle were so scary, I started having heart palpitations while reading it. The actual warning leaflet was at that time 31 pages in length, but after the Cymbalta lawsuit, the warnings are now increased for serotonin syndrome, and allergic reactions, and now 37 pages in length. Had i got the 1st prescription from the pharmacy, their policy is require request a face to face consult, and like up to 97% of patients, never get or see the leaflets.

Most pharmacies intentionally hide the warnings, or few people would start mood mind altering drugs. I was tricked to taking gabapentin and prozac and almost died when Dr Leoni told me to switch to cymbalta. ... one of the worst of the antidepressant drugs. Little did Iknow that drs and pharmacies are not obligated to warn or include the drug's warning leaflets / legal disclaimers but you can bet drs in denial and pharmacies who get sued a lot will deny misleading people, the risks, and that they profit from the chaos they create.

The FDA Black Box Warning Label includes the strongest warnings allowed by law and are forced on the drug company legal disclaimers, to warn the consumer, caregivers, and that includes the prescriber.

The drug companies intentionally refuse to include the doctor approved 5% maximum reduction slow taper method, or any method whatsoever.
As per the patterns of quacks, Dr Leoni refused to return my urgent calls to report side effects for 4 days. I was in pain and didn't know what was happening then. Dr James Leoni guessed a whopping "50% reduction, and told me if i did not taper, I was in for a would be in a "WORLD OF PAIN", so He was aware.

What he didn't say was the drug company advises to STOP the drug if severe side effects serotonin syndrome or allergic reaction, and other certain situations.
The risks listed are NOT rare as Dr Leoni would have patients believe. I have come to learn that the risks are common and up to 78% of people have experienced side effects.

All Rx antidepressant warnings are the same, and the 1st warnings are suicide, sexual dysfunction, serotonin syndrome, depression, bipolar, anxiety, black out, change of personality, hallucinations, involuntary muscle movement and neuropathy, and 500 more warnings most drs will tell you to ignore, like Dr Leoni. The truth is we have the right to know, and a lot of testimonies of experts, injured, and deaths, before the FDA includes a warning.

If your Dr tells you to ignore the drug and FDA warnings, that is a big red flag, especially if they have not reviewed the drug with the patient. Most people do not now how to review drugs or what many of the terms mean, such as carcinogenesis = causes the start of cancer cell growth. I never hire drs in denial anymore and awareness is spreading. All my doctors are aware and never deny drug risks or patient reports of side effects, but there is no help or support for those injured by psych drugs, or doctors, nurses, and pharmacies, and caregivers, in denial.

Changing serotonin in the body is risky and dangerous, and not necessary or proven medically beneficial. The drug leaflets claim that up to 60% of people get a 10%+/- effectiveness compared to placebo, and fades to 1% in a few months.
The drug companies do not tell you that if you take any Rx psych drug or anticonvulsant drugs more than 7 days, a slow taper is required for months or years. 2 to 6 weeks between dose changes. Average time to slow taper is 2.5 years.
Risks are not limited to withdrawal, and may continue or not start until long after discontinuation. Risks increase with dose changes, switching drugs, skipping doses or taking more than once daily, dose strength, length taken, and increase with any drug food interactions as listed by the drug company, or other trusted source.

I am a survivor and Rx antidepressants and anticonvulsants, and a champion of Rx drug awareness. Learn how to review drugs, require the dr to review with you properly, and stop talking to drs in denial. There are real drs, so please DO NOT FEED THE QUACKS.
